GradEL Engineering Residency
Real-world experience. Real-world impact.
We work with companies who want more than a strong technical intern—they want engineers who understand how their work fits into a larger system. GradEL provides access to a carefully selected cohort of MIT graduate students who have been intentionally developed in collaboration, communication, and big-picture engineering leadership thinking—not as a title, but as a foundation for how they work and contribute early in their careers.
What makes this different is not simply MIT. It’s the structure around the internship. Students are screened for professional maturity and growth orientation, prepared through leadership coursework and coaching, and join a cohort that learns from one another throughout the experience. Within their roles at your organization, you play an active role in helping them engage with stakeholder complexity, decision tradeoffs, and organizational context—so they can contribute not only technically, but as stronger collaborators who can see both the forest and the trees. The difference shows up not just in what they deliver, but in how much they develop over the course of the experience.
“The amount of emotional intelligence, interpersonal aptitude, and communication skill growth I saw from day 1 to day end was greater than any intern I've seen in my 3 years of hosting interns.”
Sponsors don’t just host an intern; they help shape the trajectory of a future technical leader. Throughout the experience, students reflect, synthesize what they learn, and deliver both technical work and insights about the systems they are part of. The result is an intern who contributes meaningfully through their work and deliverables, while developing a deeper understanding of how engineering creates impact. Many companies choose to extend return offers—not simply because they hired an MIT student, but because they experienced the difference in how these students contribute - both in what they deliver and how they work.
“Good interns are selected. Exceptional interns are developed.”
